Forgotten Canyon
Canyoneering. It’s kind of like hiking, except you do it inside of a canyon. Sounds pretty simple, right? Well canyoneering is what I did this past weekend. My dad was in town for the weekend specifically for this trip, and we had been planning on it for a while. We did Forgotten Canyon, one he had done once before. There’s no “trail” on this hike, you just following the topographical map you find from your favorite outdoor website. It starts pretty steep as you walk down quite a ways before you get to a relatively short rapel. After that you get to walk for a couple of hours through the sand wash before the canyon deepens again and you arive at the second rapel. This one is more fun since it’s a little bigger and free hanging. After all this there’s just lots and lots and lots of walking. Overall the trip took around nine hours, covered LOTS of vertical feet, and caused much pain to all. In face, I don’t think I’ve ever been so sore, especially not just from walking. Overall, very fun, but not for the faint of heart.
Once I’ve got some pictures uploaded to flickr I’ll add a link. For now, here’s one that’s kinda neat.
